Goodness lies in the eyes of our illusions. We tend to get caught in the virtue trap, the high moral ground, the right thing to do, selflessness, others before self, the inane sacrifices, generosity at the cost of peace of mind. We believe this is spirituality; living life in the service of others.

Have been waiting to buy a piano for yourself but your son has suddenly discovered a love for gaming? Get the piano. The Xbox can wait. Prioritise your creativity. Stop wanting to be seen as a good parent, always. This game in which you always lose has to stop.

Want to go out on a date with your friends but can't because the partner is busy? Stop sacrificing your joy. Get the spouse to babysit the kids. Stop being an understanding partner, always. Get a high being yourself.

Want to read a book all day with a glass or two of your favourite Cabernet Sauvignon? Say no to the neighbour who needs help with the RWA elections. Just vote for your 'me' time.
|

Been saving money for that telescope, but the brother needs business funds for just a month? Ask him to give you space. Get the telescope. See the larger picture.

Learn to say no. Saying no is a form of self-love.

Do not martyr your joy in the service of others and for worldly approval. You don't have to be a good person for others. Just be good to yourself.

Meet Judgement. The merciless murderer. |

Judgement is a merciless creativity murderer. And premature judgement, its callous, barbarous, younger cousin, is a ruthless foe.
|

An act of creativity needs time to mature and when it is judged before its time has come, it may not only be judged incorrectly, but could also be a fatal blow to a creator's confidence.
|
|
| |
|
|

Premature, self-judgment is worse.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
Creativity needs time to incubate, to shine on its own, to emerge from the traumas, to spread its wings, to experience mishaps, and finally soar high. Judge it too early, and you'll kill it in the womb itself.
|

| |
Write those bad poems. Make that bad art. Bake that burnt bread. Dance those inelegant steps. Allow your creativity the time and space to mature on its own.
|
|

|
|
| |
Judgement comes from wanting to be better. Joy comes from wanting to just be.
|

When it's time, you'll know. You'll just know.
